Treatments

Acc Treatment

Acupuncturists registered as an ACC provider and a member of the Chinese Medical council of NZ enables clients to have 12 treatments for their injury under acc part funding.  A requirement for treatment with an acupuncturist is an Acc45 claim number provided by their doctor, osteopath, chiropractor or physiotherapist. The date of injury is required, must be within the year and the allocated treatment amount expires after 12 weeks of initial treatment.

Trigger release needling

Using motor points on a muscle body and points of particular tightness, careful needle insertion at these sites can unravel and release tension in the muscle.  A jolt, ripple or spasm in the muscle is often felt by client and practitioner and can create relief at the issue site.  This technique is not always used by acupuncturists however at this practice it is often combined with traditional treatment for muscular pain, inflammatory, injury and joint conditions.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture

To form a diagnosis with TCM, questions about the body signs and symptoms are asked in accordance with its traditional organ system theory.   An acupuncturist may take a traditional tongue and pulse diagnosis.  Terms like 'qi stagnation' or 'deficiency of qi' for example are diagnostic terms used and are the basis of the point combination.  Other modalities of TCM are included, which could be reducing an inflammatory diet or introducing more whole foods and movement, and examining stress and other external factors that could be contributing to the cause.

Facial Acupuncture

Needles threaded under wrinkle lines and at creases with combination of traditional body point location.  Facial points are used with conditions such as sinus issues, bells palsy, headaches, jaw pain, relaxation and stress relief.

Following the TCM diet theory and adapting it to the modern lifestyle, supplements may be looked at to contribute to the providing of acupuncture. This clinic uses the extensive knowledge, scientific research and naturopathic support from a provider company enabling treating with acupuncture to be used in its Traditional Chinese Medicine form.  Needling is only one part of TCM and treatment outcomes are determined by factors of diet and nutrition, physical activity, overwork, the external environment, stress and emotional wellbeing.

Moxabustion

Often used for fertility and in menstrual pain treatments to warm and nourish.  There are different versions of moxa, in this clinic the smokeless stick form is used. It's a calming and healing addition to treatment for muscular pain and injury.

Cupping used on its own is provided for muscle tightness.  It's a 'massage in a cup'.  Combining it with acupuncture treatment is used often for conditions of stiffness, inflexibility, pain and inflammation.  It's comfortable and relieving for most clients, however a surface bruise is often but not always a result.  The superficial bruise will shift over a few days depending on the condition and repetition of treatment.
